Stick Length

One of the most asked questions that we are asked is "how long should my stick be?"  As a general rule of thumb, when standing in street shoes, one would cut it at around the upper lip to tip of the nose area.  Now what effect does stick height have on your game?  Stick length is something that you must "play" around with to find out what length is best for you.  Determining what length of stick you should have is dependent on a number of factors.  One of those factors maybe determined by what position you play or what type of shots do you like to take.  Generally if you are a defenseman, you may have a longer stick as the length will help you when you "poke" check.  Also, you will gain more "leverage" which is good for taking slap shots as many defensemen like to take.  The downside to a longer stick is that you may lose some control while stick handling.  That is why forwards generally use a shorter stick.  Also, being in a position closer to the net doesn't allow them to take many slap shots.  Wrist and snapshots are usually more common, and when you need a nice quick shot in tight, a shorter stick makes it much easier.  Stick length is something that is of "trial and error".  When trying to find out what length is good for you, we suggest you use 1/2" increments.  You'll be surprised at how much only 1/2" can make a HUGE difference on your game.
